This little guy has traveled more in the first six months of his life than most adults. He has been in the following states: Georgia, South Carolina, Iowa, and Nebraska. Even more if you count riding through states. We decided last minute to have a fun weekend in Omaha. We apparently wore the little one out.

These blocks used to be Patrick's when he was little. Charles really likes them. They are just the right size for him to pick up, and of course he tries to eat them. Everything he can put in his mouth goes in his mouth. He also likes to knock over towers that are built for him. Thanks Grandma for sending them in the mail!

Exploring play time: I dump out all kinds of toys and Charles plays with everything off and on during this time. He gets to see, touch, and hear what each toy does. He really studies his toys. It is so fun to watch him learn.

Hunger Games Series

One of my 12 in 2012 is to read other genres. I have started out the year strong with this particular goal.

I must say that I really liked the Hunger Games series. I read all three books in one week! The books just seemed to pull me in. I couldn't get enough. It has been a really long time since I have been so captured by a series of books. The characters became real to me. I strongly suggest you check out this series---you will not be disappointed. On March 23rd the movie for the first book will be hitting theaters. I hope that they do not change the story line too much!

2nd- Catching Fire

3rd- Mockingjay

The next book I will be trying is The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom.

The last crib backboard panels messed up and Nebraska Furniture Mart allowed us to return and replace our crib. Since we were not able to find a crib that matched the dresser we were able to switch that out too. They have great customer service.

An exciting post I know. We used some Christmas money to purchase these rugs. They were needed to make the living room look nicer, but also a softer place for Charles to do tummy time/eventually crawl around on.

My 12 for 2012

1.)Read the whole Bible by December 31st making small notes on each chapter.
2.) Blog more: I think this list will help me in this goal.
3.) Branch out and read other genres. Please give me some suggestions of books you enjoy.
4.) Exercise at least 10 minutes a day.
5.) Eat healthier.
6.) Learn my new camera.
7.) Take a photography class.
8.) Do another class for my reading endorsement. I only have 3 left to go. One this June and then the last two will be offered Summer 2013. After I finish my endorsement I will be certified to teach K-8 Reading. I am already certified to teach K-8 Language Arts, K-8 Social Studies, and K-6 Elementary.
9.) Go to some events for Carroll area moms. I need to get to know some other moms in the area. It will also be fun as Charles gets older to have some other children to play with. I am excited that they do a moms only night out once a month.
10.) Drink more water. I did really well with this during my pregnancy not so much lately. Not only will this be healthier it will be cheaper than soft drinks.
11.) Be more adventurous- get out and do things. I have been more of a home person since having Charles.
12.) Enjoy parenthood and be a better wife.

My journal of getting Charles to sleep through the night so far. I think this will be really neat in his baby book.
On January 3, 2012 we try to get Charles to sleep through the night. The plan is to just pat him every ten minutes to get him to go back to sleep. Starts crying and after 30 or so minutes of him pitching a fit we give in and feed him 4 ounces. A rough night for all involved! Going cold
turkey did not work for Charles or us.
January 4, 2012- We decide to try weaning Charles instead of just giving him his full amount of food. Now when he wakes we only give him 4 ounces each time. He wakes up 2 times.
January 5, 2012 Didn’t get to dream feed tonight too tired, and add to the fact that it had only been an hour or two from his last feeding—and we wanted to go to sleep! He woke up at 10:45, 12:25, and 3:05. We are still feeding 4 ounces at these feedings. I am asking myself: “who is training who?”
January 6, 2012 I was able to dream feed Charles before going to bed tonight at 10pm- 6 ounces. He woke up at 2:15 and 4:30. I don’t consider 4:30 a middle of the night feeding. I would prefer him to wait until 6, but one adjustment at a time. 4 ounce feedings continue. So getting better I guess. Tonight he went back to sleep so much easier than last night! Hopefully we are getting somewhere!!
January 7, 2012 We dream feed at 10 again tonight. I hope tonight goes even better. I am thinking about downing the amount he gets for night time feedings to 3 ounces tomorrow night. I would love to end this month with Charles sleeping through the night regularly! He woke up at 3 and then slept to 5:30. Getting better.
January 8, 2012 We did not start the 3 ounce thing last night. I was sick and didn’t want to mess around if the 3 ounces didn’t work. He woke up one time at 1:25. He was dream feed at 9:35 pm. He woke up for his morning feeding at 4:05. We will work on getting that closer to six after we cut out the night time feeding.
January 9, 2011 We dream feed Charles at 10:15. We are continuing with the 4 ounce feedings in the middle of the night because I am sick. He woke up one time at 1:05 and then slept until 4:50.
January 10. 2011 I feed Charles 6 ounces at 8:45pm. When he was finished we all went to bed. I started cutting the feedings to 3 ounces in the middle of the night. He woke up at 12:15- I feed him 3 ounces and put him to bed—praying he wouldn’t wake up until morning. He woke up around 5:45 cooing and baby talking. I went in about 5:55 changed him and talked to him. He ate at 6 am. A good night:)! Patrick and I both told him how proud we were of him sleeping.

5 Months

This little big guy turned 5 months yesterday.

Favorite Toys: sax rattle and ball/rattle. He likes anything that makes noises.

Favorite Pass Time Activities: being read to, cuddles, funny faces and noises from mommy and daddy. He loves his swing. He likes tv: Curious George and Cat in the Hat.

Accomplishments: he is beginning to sit up on his own. He holds his head up really well. He can stand up and only needs someone to help balance him. He is making all kinds of coos and different sounds. He is trying out his vocal cords with something other than crying.

Eating Habits: He eats roughly 35 ounces of milk daily. We are eating cereal about 4 tbsps a day. He still wakes up once a night to eat, but we are slowly working to cut that feeding.

Clothes: He is wearing sizes 6-12 months in clothes depending on what the outfit is.

Diaper: size 3.

He is one special boy!!!

Santa Visits Charles for the 1st time

It was a very special Christmas this year. This is the first year we got to celebrate with Charles! Last year we were announcing to our families that we were going to have a baby, and this year we got to introduce him to his extended family, and some of our closest friends. See what Santa brought our good boy. I know I am behind! Sorry for that. We just got back home on the 2nd. We drove all the way with a 4 1/2 month old without stopping! Between being exhausted, unpacking everything, and getting Charles back on schedule it has been a busy week home. Add to the fact that we are working on getting Charles to sleep through the night. More on that on another post.

Our first snow of the year. It looks so pretty outside. It has been a fun day to spend just the three of us.

Charles had rice cereal for the first time tonight. Ignore the wrapping paper we have been wrapping presents.

The next picture is a little blurry: We did get some in his tummy I promise. He figured out how to eat cereal pretty well for his first time, but as you can see he doesn't go hungry;) We went to the doctor yesterday for his 4 month checkup. He weighs 17 pounds 9 ounces (95th percentile) and is 26 inches long (90th percentile).

Day 7: For 3 wonderful grandparents. They have all changed my life in one great way or another.

Day 8: For my in-laws Alex and Pat Box. They have welcomed me with open arms since day one. I am thankful for our relationship. They are both crazy in love with Charles, and great parents.

Day 9: For my two brother-in-laws Andrew (since 8/23/03) and Stephen (since 6/3/2006). It is nice to have brothers.

Day 10: For a loving Heavenly Father that provides for all of our needs. Who has promised me a wonderful future. I have a home in Heaven for trusting in him as my savior.

Day 4:
I am thankful for my beautiful sister. She is always being a big sister and looking out for me. I really appreciate her so much. She has a really big tender heart and is always willing to help others in need. She is a wonderful mother to my nephew and niece, and one awesome Auntie M. Day 1: I would like to do a short post each day this month stating something I am thankful for.

I am incredibly thankful for this little guy. He has brought so much joy to our lives since we found out we were going to have him back on December 5, 2010. His smiles bring so much life and light to our hearts. Since he entered our lives I have felt so much joy, and I pray daily for our dear friends that so long to have a little one of their own. Local high school students that are interested in the medical field toured the hospital. Charles was a participant. They listened to his heart and lungs. He did a great job. He smiled and cooed the whole time.

Nothing is more fun than getting fun mail. Today I came home to a package. It was a nice way to end my work day. This gift is extra special to me. It came from Kathy and Bryanna. Bryanna is an extra special girl to me. I remember her at Danielsville Elementary, and then I was very blessed to have her my first year teaching at Madison County Middle School, and she handed out programs at our wedding. Needless to say she is a very special young lady to me. It is hard to believe that she is now in her first year of college. She is so smart and such a hard worker I know she will go far in life. Her mom is also a very precious lady. She is so sweet and kind. I will cherish this handmade blanket and book set. I plan on reading a book or two tonight to Charles before bedtime. Thanks so much!!!

Couch to 5K

I was cleared from the doctor to start exercising last week. I gave myself until this Monday to just relax. This past Monday Patrick and I brisk walked for 25 minutes. No that is not day one of couch to 5 K, but work with me here- I haven't worked out since I was six weeks pregnant except to stroll and at the end wobble. Wednesday I truly started day 1 of couch to 5 K. My body wanted to revolt against the jogging times but I pushed through. I never would have thought that such little jogging would be so hard. Because before pregnancy I was running and some brisk walking for anywhere from 30-45 minutes. I was never awesome or anything approximately 3-5 miles at a time back then roughly 3 times a week. Well back to couch to 5 K. I felt the burn yesterday and today I do day 2 of week 1. Patrick is being a great coach brisk walking, pushing Charles in the stroller, and timing me for my intervals. The Box house is getting into shape and trying to eat healthier. We want to start setting an example for Charles at an early age to take care of his body, therefore we must practice what we will be preaching.

Update on happenings in Charles development and learning:
We are continuing tummy time- during this time we work on holding his head up, turning his head by balancing up on his arms, practicing rolling over both ways with help, and introducing toys.
I try to read 2 books to him everyday. We rotate the books we have. I need to go to the library and get a few more.
We listen to music everyday too. The music ranges from fun children songs, children praise songs (things I found on the Internet that we sang in Children's church), and all the way up to Chamber Music, and Orchestra Music. I enjoy finding and listening to the songs we sang in Children's Church. I have great memories of wonderful church plays and Church Children Teachers. Plus the songs pack a punch to my heart. I find the songs stuck in my head and if you listen to the words the message is very powerful!
Other things we do: Sing our address and phone numbers to the tune of One little, Two little, Three little Indian Boys. Say our ABC's, and count to ten in English and Spanish.

Our sweet boy is 7 weeks old today. He is holding his head up better everyday, he will stand up for about 15-30 second (supported of course), smiles randomly and when talked to (of course when I pull out the camera he refuses to smile), and he is beginning to grasp onto things---my hair is his favorite thing to grab. He also is starting to follow objects better. When crying for his food if you hold the bottle in front of him he will stop (one smart baby) unless you don't get it to his mouth in a timely fashion. He is just too precious and when he is held up to my cheek he kisses me. Which of course makes my day.

The cute outfit is from the Fish's. He is so adorable in it thanks so much!!! The outfit says in case you can't read it: "Awesome like dad."

Take'em to the Pound

We went to the Carroll Homecoming Parade today. It was a warm day. I just put a hat on Charles to keep the sun from burning his little head. A very kind lady put the blanket up to keep the sun off of him but he wanted to be held not lay in the stroller.

Thanks for those that helped out with homecoming. A special shout out to Mrs. Cordes, Mrs. McKenzie, Mrs. Mortenson, and Student Senate you did an awesome job!!! It has been really nice getting to take care of the baby without worrying about homecoming plans. I appreciate all you have done. Words cannot express how much it means to me that I could cuddle with Charles these first weeks.

The Diet of a New Mommy

Rules set by Charles:
1. Easy and Quick meals
2. Able to eat fast

So my breakfast is usually:
Water, Granola: Nature Valley Chewy Trail Mix Fruit and Nut, and Strawberry Yogurt

Lunch:
Sandwich, a few chips, either diet coke or water

Supper:
Whatever we can find that we think will be good. Sometimes it is healthy and at other times not so much. I have to get better here though. I have a goal to have all of my baby weight off by my birthday/Christmas. This is not a huge goal since I was lucky enough to only have 6 pounds to lose on my own since the other weight was baby and fluid. Believe me I was very surprised by this I was expecting to have a lot of weight to work off, and more than likely I will not be this blessed next time.

Starting Monday I will begin couch to 5K. Look for posts on how I am doing. Patrick said he would do this with me. Looking forward to getting healthy and my body back.

A Special Visitor

Charles and Heather. He loved being cuddled and was fascinated by her red hair. Maybe red heads are in his future?

My oldest best friend and college roommate. We have known each other since elementary school and became close friends in middle school. It was very special to me that she flew out this past weekend to visit and see our newest addition. The next visit must be during the summer so she can stay longer.

I promise I didn't spike his hair for this picture. Although it fits with his outfit Born to Rock and Roll. His hair after being washed is out of control.

Belly time so that he develops strong neck muscles. This also helps in head control, turning over, pushing up their upper body, and eventually helps with turning over and crawling. He is not always a fan of this time.

Our little cutie all dressed up for church this past Sunday. He was so adorable.

Our little monkey at one month. Today is his first month birthday. It has been an interesting month getting to know our little one. Each day we think we figure out something about our little boy, and then sometimes boom everything changes. So goes life I guess. We are so happy to have him in our lives.

This month he has found the mobile on his swing, enjoys listening to Frank Sinatra, holds his head up by himself more and more, and seems to be smiling and cooing some. He loves to swing and to be held.

So it has been a crazy week. We have been on our own as parents for the first week since our son has come into the world. We have had some major ups and downs. Being a parent is not an easy task, and I believe stay at home mothers should have the highest salary know to man. It is a very rewarding job with smiles and coos but the most exhausting thing ever. I started using Baby Wise Monday during naps and have continued to use it through night time and the week. Let me just tell you I cried right along with Charles all day Monday and some on Tuesday. Although he is picking up on this pattern and getting better at going to sleep on his own without aid. (Now that I said this I know things are going to be tough). Also, Charles has acid reflux and is on medicine that means lots of spit up! I'm talking it seems like epic proportions- he tends to love to share this mostly with his mommy! Along with other special blessings like explosive bad diapers and a sprinkler system that rears its head when least expected. I jokingly tell him he is so lucky he is so darn cute, but he could do any of the above continually and I would love him to pieces. I am so thankful for God's little blessing of Charles in our lives.

Marching Band Begins

...and that means new t-shirts. Every student in the band has a matching t-shirt they must wear under their band jacket in order to be able to not wear said jacket after half-time. This is new to me since I was not in band, and I married into it. I must say though it is a lot of fun and very neat to see everyone look uniformed. I also like getting a new t-shirt to support my band kiddos and my husband. I hope they have a wonderful year and have lots of fun! This year's show is a Journey show. Even Charles is supporting the band with his shirt "I'm with the band." Charles, Grandma, and I just went to see the half-time show and then left. Since the weather might not allow us to see any more performances I was very happy to get to go see the band, and it was fun to show off Charles too.

Charles has been blessed with excellent Grandparents. They have been so helpful since his arrival. Plus I never knew that I could love someone so much, and my love for Patrick and family has grown even more. I thought I was protective when I was carrying him, but now that instinct has grown by leaps and bounds.

Mama C helping Patrick change his first diaper ever. He did a great job even though he had three people trying to tell him what to do. Believe me Charles didn't make this first job easy for him. I must say he is becoming a pro at changing diapers. Mama C is a great teacher. Mama C is a natural with babies.

Pop with his cuddle time. He could make any baby sleep by just holding them. I told him numerous times that he should not hold him before feeding time because he wouldn't eat as well. Pop has the magic touch though at nap/bed time.

Grandpa and Grandma arrived and are already in love with Charles. They are now helping out with baths, and things around the house. We are blessed to have roughly 2 weeks with grandparents. I don't know what we would have done without each and everyone of them.

It's 3:30 am, and it's been a long day, but it has been worth it. Brooke and I have been at the hospital since 6:45 yesterday morning. After a long day of progressing through the stages of labor, our doctor determined that Brooke was not going to be able to deliver Charles naturally and she had a c-section. This turned out to be a great decision, as Charles weighed 9 lbs, 11 ounces! Our doctor had originally estimated 8 1/2 lbs. Charles Owen Box was born on August 10, 2011 at 2:22 am. He is 21 inches long, has a significant amount of black hair, and gigantic paws for hands. I am so proud of Brooke; she worked so hard all day and really held out against significant pain. I like to think he's pretty much the most beautiful baby ever, but I'll let you judge for yourselves.

The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies Ever

Recipe from the Oxley's
2/3 cup oleo
2/3 cup Crisco (butter flavor)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
Cream the above ingredients together then add in the following ingredients in order and mix.
2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs
3 cups flour
12 oz chocolate chips
Make and put cookies on cookie sheet.
Bake 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes
ENJOY!!!!

We are extremely blessed beyond measure with wonderful family and friends. Charles is going to be spoiled rotten and I am okay with that because I know he is loved and cared for by many. We are so thankful for your gifts of love.

These precious burp cloths and wash cloths were handmade with love by Audrey. I absolutely love them. They are too cute. (I have a dream of one day being able to sew). I would just like to point out the one with the airplane a special add on that will match his room. I know the detail was not easy-so thanks!

Mrs. Pam sent us some really cute little outfits, a sleeper that says "I love mommy," and a cute little burp cloth.

One Step Closer....Projects Inside &Outside

We have talked of purchasing blinds for the kitchen for awhile. We finally got them. They are now up. Too bad they were an absolute pain to get up and to remove the extra portion at the bottom. It would be nice for products to have better parts and clearer directions. Sorry to complain but really if you spend money that you work hard for it is a royal pain to end up with a product with poor directions and poor parts/design.

The next step is for window toppers. Suggestions are welcome. We are not sure what color to go with.

This is a picture of the other window in the kitchen. It is over the sink. This is the best picture I could get.

Patrick spent many hours trying to dig up these stumps. He broke down and rented a stump grinder. It ended up being much cheaper to rent and D.I.Y. it than to hire someone.We are now rid of the four stumps we had in our yard. We had 2 guys show up and help out and to check out the big yard toy in action. Thanks Jeff and Mike for your help and time!!!This stump needed to be smaller before grinding it. Thanks again to Jeff and Mike for doing this portion of the task since Patrick had stitches in his hand from broken glass. Our yard is coming along quite well. Patrick has been a very busy man working hard to make our yard a more beautiful place.

Product Review & Recipes & How to....& Books

I must say I love these slow cooker liners by Reynolds. I made some Crock Pot Mac and Cheese and all I had to do to clean up was take out the liner. This is awesome having a black pot for my crock pot since it is not easy to clean. They even put in a few recipes and some look pretty good. I am also going to share a few recipes that would work great with these great liners.
****Maybe they will send me some great coupons or free liners for this post. :)

Crock Pot Mac and Cheese Thanks Kathy Davis
1 10 ounce package of elbow macaroni cooked and drained
1 large can evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups of regular milk
1 tsp of salt
1/4 cup melted butter
12 ounces grated cheddar cheese (save 1/2 cup cheese for topping)
1 egg beaten

Spray the liner just a bit to cover the inside of the crock pot
Mix all ingredients well
Pour into crock pot, top with remaining 1/2 cup cheese
Cook on low for 3 hours and 15 minutes

Continental Chicken Thanks Pat Box
4 to 6 boneless chicken breasts
4 to 6 slices bacon
1 jar dried beef
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup of sour cream

Put in your liner. Spray the inside lightly. Arrange dried beef in bottom of crock pot. Wrap each chicken breast with bacon and lay on top of beef. Mix soup and sour cream together and pour over chicken. Cover and cook on Low 8 to 10 hours or High 3 to 5 hours.

Serve with rice & If you make 6 pieces of chicken we have found that using 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup makes the chicken more moist. The soup mixture tastes really good on top of your rice and chicken use it as a gravy.

Now to the how to portion of the post:
How to easily clean your microwave and make your kitchen smell wonderful in the process:

Get a medium sized bowl
Put in Cinnamon Sticks, Whole Cloves, and Whole All Spice ( It is up to you the amounts of each)
Cover above ingredients with warm water.
Place in the microwave and heat for 3-5 minutes causing your microwave to steam.
Wipe out your microwave with a damp cloth.
Enjoy the lovely smell in your kitchen and your clean microwave. You can keep your homemade scent out on the kitchen counter too.

I also cleaned out the refrigerator today with a little baking soda, lime juice, vinegar, and warm water. I used this mixture to clean the walls, shelves, and drawers in the fridge and it did not stink of vinegar because I just used a very small amount. Wipe everything down then dry with a towel so that no streak marks will be left.

I guess I am nesting or something because I keep thinking of things to do and clean. I normally clean but now I am deep cleaning things. Maybe next I will start baking and making casseroles for after the baby is born and we are home.

I have started a series of books and I highly recommend them they are the O'Malley Series by Dee Henderson. So far I am on book 4 of the series and I am already dreading the end of the last book in the series. I have totally gotten to know the characters and as always with a good series you hate for it to end.

So Blogger has had me frustrated. Sometimes pictures will upload and at other times it simply refuses to upload for me. So some of the pictures are from June 27th up through last night. I hope you enjoy.

Pictures from our fireworks:

We enjoyed July 4th with many friends at the Grote's house. We had fun hanging out with everyone, and the food was excellent! Followed up with some magnificent fireworks from Breda that we could see from the Grote yard.

The basement: Patrick has been working on sealing all external walls down in our basement. First- He had to clean the walls with a solution to get rid of all deposits.

Second- Patch any places that needed it with hydraulic cement. He did a little more than was probably needed but it is better to be cautious now than have a mess in the basement from rain. Third- paint on dry-lock wall sealer (2 coats are needed).A good portion of one wall mostly completed.

These are the first steps in getting this room ready to finish totally. At least now when we go down to the basement for a storm the walls will be sealed and the room is clean/organized. The interior wall now has shelving and now I can find things I need better. I am thankful for a husband who likes projects and works hard. The basement is a project that will be done as we can afford to do the necessary project steps, so little things along the way. I will post progress pictures as they come along.

The Iowa Cubs game we went to on June 27th: we left at the end of the 9th and they played until the 15th inning. We were able to catch the end of the game when we got back home around midnight. The CUBS WON!

Awesome Dessert Recipes for Summer

Strawberry Ice Cream Pie

Ingredients: (For Pie)
1 baked 9 inch pie shell
1 (10 oz) package frozen strawberries
1 (3 0z) box of strawberry jello
1 pint vanilla ice cream

For Topping:
Whipped Cream

Directions:
Thaw and drain frozen strawberries, reserving syrup.
To syrup add water to make 1 cup; bring to a boil.
Remove from Heat.
Stir in Jello until dissolved.
Add ice cream by spoonful, stirring until melted.
Chill until thickened.
Fold in strawberries.
Pour into baked pie shell.
Chill until firm. (In freezer)

To serve, garnish with whipped cream.
~Make either the night before you want to serve or make at least 5 hours before you wish to serve. (Take out of freezer about 10-15 minutes before serving.) Store remaining pie in freezer.

Oreo Ice Cream Shop Pie

Prep: 15 minutes plus freezing time.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup hot fudge dessert topping, divided
1 Oreo pie crust (6 oz)
1 tub of Cool Whip whipped topping (8oz), thawed, divided
1-1/4 cups of cold milk
2 pkgs. of (4 serving size each) Jello Oreo Flavor Instant Pudding and Pie Filling (If you can't find Oreo use Cookies and Cream.)

Directions:
1. Remove 2 Tbsp of the fudge topping; set aside. Spoon remaining topping into crust; spread to evenly cover bottom of crust. Top with half of the whipped topping; freeze 10 minutes.
2. Pour milk into large bowl. Add dry pudding mixes. Beat with wire whisk 2 minutes or until well blended. (Mixture will be thick.) Gently stir in remaining whipped topping. Spoon over whipped topping layer in crust.
3. Freeze 4 hours. Remove pie from freezer 15 minutes before serving. Drizzle with remaining fudge topping. Store leftover pie in freezer.

Trombone Lamp

Patrick purchased this trombone on eBay his sophomore year in college (2003). He has been wanting to make this trombone into a lamp for some time now. A student at Carroll High said she would weld it for him. All he had to purchase was the wiring, shade, and bulbs. This is extremely cool looking in his office.

On the left I am 29 weeks and I had a rough week. I found out the Friday prior that my blood work came back and I have Hypothyroid. I had to start a medicine that made me feel bad until I got used to it. That is the reason I look so bad in that picture. I almost didn't post it. Thank goodness I started feeling better after taking it a week.

On the right I am 30 weeks. Is it just me or has my belly dropped a little along with it getting bigger. It is amazing how much my body seems to be changing.

One Busy Weekend

Update on my knitted blanket: I am now at 18 3/4 inches. I have to get to 40 inches. I have a goal of having it finished by June 15th. Thanks Pop and Mama C for a precious soft blanket for Charles. I know it was wrapped before you got to see it so I thought I would post it for you.

This Weekend we celebrated graduation in Carroll. We are very proud of our seniors. Best wishes for very bright futures. Thanks for inviting us to share in your special weekend. Here is Patrick with some of his graduating Seniors.

Radom Updates

This is the first time I have gotten to really dress up during my pregnancy. So of course I pulled out the pearls and heels. I am 27 weeks in this picture.
Patrick and I all fancy for band awards night.

This is how far I am on the blanket I am making. I have 12 inches down and about 28 inches to go. Each row is fun and has eight different types of stitch changes in each row. Lots of counting and the little markers help out a lot.

Here is a close up look so you can see the pretty detail, or what I believe is pretty.

The bathroom update: Everything is finished and looks great. See for yourself.

The ceiling above the shower looked really bad because before we moved in the bathroom did not have a fan to help remove the moisture. Also, the door got a new white paint job too.

The side wall lower panel had a big brown spot that needed to be painted over and fixed. Now it is all a pretty white.

The cabinets were also given a new paint job. I am really happy with what Patrick accomplished in this bathroom.

I had some really cool pictures to share of Patrick and I from Band Award Night, a picture update on the really cool blanket I am making, and I also wanted to share pictures of our newly painted bathroom. Well the bathroom was about two-three weeks ago. I just now had some time to work on updating the blog, and our little connecter to upload pictures is at the High School!!! Oh well I guess all of this will have to wait until Monday or Tuesday.

Nursery So Far & Handmade Knits

The top is of a blanket I am making. It involves two different cables, moss stitch, and seed stitch all on each row. So far I am very happy with it but it is taking me awhile. I hope I can be finished before August. I only have about 37 inches left. The next photo is of a baby bath cloth I am making. I plan to finish the top part out in blue.

This baby bath cloth has two little feet in it. I learned how to bobble to make the toes. Look closely and you will see the feet.

This is the blanket I made before finding out that our baby was a boy. It is supper soft so I hope he likes it.

Me at 24 weeks on Easter Day! This week has been extremely busy so I don't have a picture of week 25. Hopefully I will get one before Wednesday because that is when I become 26 weeks.

Patrick has been working hard in the nursery. He has spent the last two weekends making sure the walls and trim look nice. Yesterday he put up blinds and curtains. We have a topper too but some adjustments need to be made first.

Thank goodness we paid the 10 dollars to get the company to put the bed together! Take a look at what we have so far and part of the process. Sorry that there are not as many pictures of the painting process but I tried to stay away. The Crib

I know I will be spending many hours in this spot. The crib all decorated. We just staged it for some pictures. The lion is from Auntie M and the cute little rattle blanket is from Mrs. Pam. The front toys are some of my nephews old toys... it is a secret...don't tell him. The dresser -we have already started organizing some of the things we have inside and as you can see on the outside too. The following prints are of WWII fighter planes. These prints were the inspiration for the whole room.

Class Finished

Today I turned in my last assignment for the class I have been taking. Insert Happy Dance! The class was not bad just time consuming and at times a little frustrating. After 9 journal/chapter review right ups, an in depth portfolio project, and a final quiz I am done. Now I just await my grades.... Everything I have received so far has been an A. I am awaiting my portfolio grade and my final quiz grade. I feel confident that I have an A. One class down and three to go in order to get a reading endorsement on my teaching certificate.

Life

23 weeks belly bump picture. I am in my regular shirt but the pants are maternity and super comfortable. They feel more like leggings than blue jeans. I am feeling great just getting bigger which is totally new to me. It is always a shock to look at myself in the mirror.

We have been pretty busy the past couple of weeks.

At home the past two weekends Patrick has been painting the upstairs bathroom. I must say it looks great. The ceiling above the shower needed sanding because of shower steam prior to us and a ventilation system being installed (we put in a ventilation system right before we moved in). So after sanding and some love and care the ceiling looks nice. It is painted a lovely white which makes the bathroom look bright and bigger. The walls are now a pretty buttercup instead of tan now too. The trim, cabinets, and door are now white. This room should be finished in the next few days. He only has a few touch ups left to do. I will post before and after pictures once he finishes. He has been really productive because we have to have the baby's room painted before the furniture arrives on April 30th.

This Saturday we went to Des Moines to register for baby Charles. We spent a huge amount of time in Babies R Us figuring out what we needed. Then on to Target which was a breeze because of the smaller size of area of baby stuff. I think the whole process took around 3-4 hours. I knew babies needed a lot but I truly had no idea until this trip!

Letter to Baby

Dear Baby, Today is a very big day for your mommy and daddy we get to see your sweet little body in an ultrasound. The fun does not stop there we get to hopefully find out if you are a boy (Charles) or a girl (Meredith). Needless to say we are very excited and so are your grandparents, aunts, and uncles and many friends. I love feeling you move around it is an experience that I cannot describe in words. Know that you are greatly loved already and that we are already preparing things for you. We pray everyday thanking God for you and asking Him to mold you and to teach us to be the parents you need us to be. Keep growing strong and healthy and we can't wait to see you in August. So I look bigger at 20 weeks than I do at weeks 21 and 22. I blame it on the shirt. I'm doing great just have times that I am extremely tired. I also struggle with going up stairs and when walking up hills because I become short of breath. I cannot complain so far I have had a great pregnancy. Instead take a look at the baby bump that is beginning to grow. I have not been taking weekly pictures until this point because not much was changing-I guess Baby Box was ready for more room.

Pregnancy Higlights:

How far along: 19 weeks(in the picture)
Size of Baby: The baby is about the size of a large tomatoe. Roughly 8 1/2 oz. and 6 inches long.

Maternity Clothing: I went shopping this past weekend and everything is short sleeves or sleeveless. I purchased one pair of pants, a skirt, and 3 t-shirts. I still fit in my jeans but with dress pants I must wear the belly ban. Dress clothes have been the hardest.

Gender: WE FIND OUT APRIL 11th!!!! I am so excited.

Movement: I am starting to feel more than just little flutters. This baby is going to be a little mover and shaker I can already tell. I can feel the baby most when I am sitting or laying down, but I do feel little kicks when I am standing too. The baby also seems to enjoy listening to the band play because during the concert Monday night I believe the baby was dancing. Patrick has been able to feel the baby kick about 2 times so far.

Sleep: I enjoy sleeping- I wish I was not up and down so much.

What I miss: Sleeping on my stomach or back. I get so paranoid when I wake up to go to the bathroom and I am on my back or stomach. Caffenine- Most days I do not have any but every once in awhile I will have some chocolate or a small soft drink.

Cravings: So far I have not had many cravings but when I want something I want it immediately. I really like orange juice and lemonade.

Symptoms: I am mostly good. I do get really tired at times and I get dizzy sometimes.

Things People Say: I haven't had many comments yet. I'm sure they will start coming soon.

Words of Wisdom: None at this time.

Best Moment this Week: Patrick and I went to Omaha and purchased our nursery furniture this past Saturday. Not baby related we also got to see Rob and Jill and get caught up with them over dinner.

What I have been making and things I have been pondering

For a boy's room I would like to do something very similar. I like the stuff on the bed and the little lamp, but for curtains I would like for them to be long to help block out the sun. We have prints of fighter planes from WWII that will go on the wall. I have no idea what color to paint the walls though. I am open to suggestions. I really want the room to be cute no matter if it is a boy or a girl I just want it to be something they can grow with. For a girl I can not choose from anything online. I either want to do something really girly or I would like to do something from the Wizard of Oz. If I go the Wizard of Oz way I would like to do a crib skirt in blue in white checks with touches of red bows (same for curtains), a cute little country quilt (maybe have a picture of ruby red slippers in the center), and have a print or two on the wall from the movie. Any cute cheap ideas for the walls would be much appreciated. Again what color for the walls? With both a boy or girl room I know I would like to put their initials on the wall.

I just couldn't wait until April 11th to start making something for my little one. I decided this little blanket could be for either a boy or girl. This blanket will be mint green and white. Once I find out what we are having I know I will make some gender specific blankets. I also have a goal of knitting a fancy blanket for the baby. I will need help from the local knit shop ladies for that though. I also need to learn to make little baby hats. I just love homemade things they are just so special.

Famous Butter Chicken

Prep-15 min

Cook Time-40 min

Ingredients

2 eggs, beaten

1 cup crushed Ritz crackers

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

ground pepper to taste

4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves

1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
Place eggs and cracker crumbs in two separate shallow bowls. Mix cracker crumbs with garlic salt and pepper. Dip chicken in the eggs, then dredge in the crumb mixture to coat.
Arrange coated chicken in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Place pieces of butter around the chicken.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until chicken is no longer pink and juices run clear.

I really enjoyed this chicken. I think some great sides would be Lima beans, mac and cheese, and pineapple casserole. Thanks again allrecipes.com for another great main dish. If you have never checked out the site I highly recommend it.

Dodgeball

Okay so this Friday the Student Senate is hosting a Dodgeball Tournament for Relay for Life. This past weekend Patrick and I spent time organizing brackets for the high school and middle school teams. Boy some of the names cracked us up like Lyquified Spiders to name one. Each team entry is 10 dollars to Relay for Life. Yesterday it seemed like I was on the phone for 5 hours getting businesses to donate prizes for our winners. We needed 40 prizes because each team has 10 members and we have 4 teams that win something. At the tournament we award prizes to the following teams: best sportsmanship, best uniform (t-shirt), high school champion team, and middle school champion team. I would like to thank the following business for donating-Sam's Sodas and Sandwiches, Subway, Carroll Bowl, Pizza Ranch, Burger King, and Graphic Edge. Patrick is helping out at the tournament Friday night so at some point this week to get us in the complete dodgeball mindset we plan on watching the movie Dodgeball a True underdog story with Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn. I hope the tournament goes well and that I have some good stories to share. Until then have a great day.

One Good Meal

The following recipe is really easy, yummy, and doesn't make a big mess-which is great if you don't have a dishwasher.

Cheese Ravioli Lasagna

Ingredients:

1 pound of ground beef

1/2 (25 oz) package of frozen cheese ravoli

1 (26oz) jar spaghetti sauce

1 (14.5 oz) can of diced tomatoes, drained

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

1 small package of ricotta cheese

sliced mushrooms (optional)

1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese

9x13 dish (no need to grease pan)

aluminum foil

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F
Crumble the ground beef into a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir until no longer pink. Drain grease, then stir in the spaghetti sauce and well drained can of tomatoes.
Spread 1/3 of the sauce on the bottom of your 9x13 dish. Arrange 1/2 of the ravioli over the sauce. Sprinkle 1/2 the mossarella cheese and 1/2 Monterey Jack. Place small dollops of ricotta over the entire pan. (Add in mushrooms if you wish). Repeat layers, ending with the last of the sauce on top. Cover with aluminum foil.
Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top before serving.

Serve with garlic bread and salad if you wish. Enjoy and let me know what you think.

12 weeks 18 weeks

I pretty much look the same and I am still having to tell people that I am expecting. I know that one day soon I will long for being this size. I am still in my regular clothes. I only have to use the belly band with the grey pants you see on the 12 weeks picture. I have been told that I am already taking up most of the bed. I am at the point that I am supposed to be sleeping on my left side so I have 3 pillows. I position one pillow in front of me, one at my back, and the other for my head. I joke and tell Patrick "just wait I am still little now".

Today at the Doctor's office I found out we will find out if we are having a boy or girl on April 11th if the baby cooperates.

Our Valentine's Day

Patrick and I will be hanging out at the house watching favorite t.v. shows and maybe a movie or two. We are also going to enjoy some Red Beans and Rice for dinner tonight.
Here is the recipe if you want to try it out:
1 pound of smoked beef sausage
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. thyme
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. hot sauce
2 cans of dark red kidney beans do not drain.

Mix all ingredients; cook in crock pot on High for 3 to 4 hours or on Low overnight.
Serve over rice.

This is one of the coolest inventions ever! I can keep wearing my regular pants now without feeling uncomfortable. The lady at the store told me I might be able to use this up until I'm about 24 weeks. I am loving this and I recommend other preggos to check these out.

This cute little lion is the first baby gift our little one has received and it is from my sister. I know our little one will enjoy cuddling with this lion, and it is very appropriate that it is a lion because my sister wants to be called Auntie M like off of the movie The Wizard of Oz. So we are thinking of naming this lion the Cowardly Lion/ Ward for short.

Books I have recently finished and recommend:

The Boy Who Dared by Susan Campbell Bartoletti is about a Nazi youth that stands up against the Nazi regime. A young adult book.
Shooting the Moon by Frances O'Roark Dowell takes place during 1960's the main character's brother is sent to war and she notices through the pictures he sends home for her to developed that war is not a game they used to play in the yard. A young adult book.
Return by Karen Kinsbury is about the youngest Baxter and how he returns to his family and faith. Book 3 in the series.
Rejoice by Karen Kinsbury is about Rejoicing even in the toughest situations. The oldest Baxter little girl is in an accident and faces many struggles as she recovers. Book 4 in the series.
Reunion by Karen Kingsbury is about the mother of the Baxter crew wishing for a big family reunion and it becomes increasingly important to her when her cancer returns. Book 5 in the series.
What I Saw and How I Lied by Judy Blundell is about a teenage girl in the 1940's right as the soldiers start coming home from WW2. The girl faces many challenges about love and sticking with family no matter what. A young adult book.

This Christmas... Patrick and I in our ugly Christmas Sweaters at a party.

The boys were so excited for this game. Too bad the weather didn't allow them to go out and play. Georgia experienced it first white Christmas in like over 100 years. Go figure.

She enjoyed all of her gifts and had to be reminded to open the rest. She played with each thing and with most things wished to put it on right then. I think she enjoyed playing in the box the most though.

Goals for 2011:

1. Read and Study my Bible more.

2. Read and discuss more books on the blog.

3. Continue to workout in 2011.

4. Work on my eating habits and try to eat better.

5. Knit more- learn new things and maybe even work on designing a pattern of my own.

6. Work at blogging at least 4 times a month.

At least these will keep me busy this year.

I love snowmen, and this year I created snow for them to sit in throughout the season.

BOOKS:

A great book for 4th grade up. This book is about the realities a family and young girl face with a younger brother with autism. I really enjoyed the book Rules by Cynthia Lord. The author has real life experience with autism too, so it really makes the challenges and joys come alive in the book.

Another good book for ages 4th grade and up. Olive's Ocean is about how Martha's life drastically changes over one summer spent with her Grandmother at the coast, time with the Manning boys, and the death of a classmate.

I am currently reading Remember the second book in the Redemption series. The first book was awesome. I strongly suggest you reading this series. Book one is about the Baxter family particularly about Kari, the second born of the Baxter's. She faces the incredible challenge of dealing with a cheating spouse. See how God brings redemption to Kari and many other characters in the book. I will let you know about Remember later.

This is what Patrick has been reading: I really don't know much about them, but he really likes them and wants me to try reading them. I guess I will put them on my list to read.

Beyond the Score

Last Friday night Patrick was playing in the pit for the show The Music Man, and I looked out the door and saw this around 9pm.

Then on last Saturday, we took the band to the symphony in Des Moines. The symphony is called Beyond the Score: New World Symphony. The conductor, Joseph Giunta, talked with us and answered some questions before the symphony started. We all enjoyed our time! I couldn't resist adding a few of the things that have been making me happy lately:
Knitting is one of my favorite hobbies and this is one of the many dish clothes I have made lately. I cannot take credit for the pattern. If you knit and want this pattern go to www.krisknits.blogspot.com . I have been on a knitting streak lately and I even taught myself the very beginning stages of cabling. Keep a watch out for these knits in blogs to come.

I also have been enjoying books from young adult fiction and contemporary Christian fiction. You might enjoy some of the same authors and books. Here are a few of the authors that have captured my attention and my daily reading times: Marian Hale, Karen Kingsbury, and Ann M. Martian. Marian Hale has books that focus on historical coming of age novels they are great, but keep the tissues handy. Karen Kingsbury's novels have touched my heart and helped me grow in great knowledge of God's redemption. Speaking of Redemption start with that series if you wish to start with the Baxter Series like I did. I made the mistake of starting with Book 1 Sunrise which is the last series about the Baxter family, so now I am going back and starting in the correct place. Last but not least the book above is an excellent book set in the 1950's. I am sure it will touch your heart and make you start searching for your corner of the universe. If you have read any of the above or have any suggestions let me know.

These slippers are called Snoozies. They are warm, comfortable, and have little grips on the bottom. Definitely a good idea for Christmas for those cold feet people in your life. They come in children, men, and women sizes in various colors.

The flowers above are from my husband he brought these home to me last night for no particular reason. He is such a sweetie.

Murder Mystery Dinner & Fun Halloween Cookies

There was a murder mystery dinner in our town at the library hosted by the community theater and friends of the library. Kim, Mike, Patrick and I made up part of the green team. The murder mystery was about a new wing being added to the library, and the mayor ends up not showing to the ribbon cutting of the new wing addition. The Mayor was murdered by someone. There were about 6 to 8 teams that were to investigate the suspects and reach a conclusion of who the murderer was. At the end each team was to make a decision of who the murderer was and why they thought their suspect was guilty. Each team had a very interesting conclusion, but our team was the only one to get it right. GO TEAM GREEN!

The following pictures of my sad attempt at making Halloween Cookies: they are supposed to be 3 eyed monsters, spiders, spiders in spider webs, a cat, ghosts, various other monsters, and pumpkins. I had fun even though with these abilities I would never get a job with the Cake Boss. I'm sure they are still yummy though. Maybe the High School Band Students will enjoy them tonight.

Over the past 3 or so weeks we have been down to one vehicle. Let me tell you it has been a unique situation at the Box household. We sold the CRV around September 17th, and this past weekend we went to pick up our new used truck in St Louis. We are extremely excited to be back to two vehicles. Patrick is like a kid in a candy store having a truck. We will see if I ever get to drive it or not.

Fall Fun

Friday after work Patrick and I decided to take a trip to Minnesota. It was a nice little trip and we both came back refreshed and recharged. The first few pictures are of our room it was beautiful and Patrick found a great deal on it.

We went to the Mall of America. This mall is so big it has a park and aquarium in it too. We spent all day enjoying downtown and the mall. There is so much to do and we talked of a return trip as we left late Saturday.

Wow What a Week

This has been one of the busiest weeks of my life I believe. I have had lots of fun, and I did something I thought I would never in my lifetime have the courage to do. I introduced our homecoming court at coronation in front of a crowded gym. Those that have known me my whole life really understand how not me this action was. I am so glad that it went well. This whole week has went well from the assembly on Monday, powder puff on Tuesday, coronation on Thursday, the parade today, and the football game tonight. All that is left is the dance tomorrow, and cleaning windows of businesses we painted last Sunday for homecoming. I hope that all the students enjoyed this week. I am extremely thankful for all the help from the faculty and staff, the students, and the community.
