New & Old Projects

Patrick has been busy:
He is continuing to take paint of the cabinets. He has had many layers to go through to get to the wood. See the lovely green.

Today he started taking down a few more trees that spread like weeds. He is constantly up to something! This project took place while he was waiting on the chemicals to help get the paint off of the cabinets.

Birthday fun with Minute to Win it Games!!!!!!

Birthday Pictures with the cake:
Action shot: The following 3 pics are of a game where you have to knock off plastic cups with the use of only the air of the balloon all in 1 minute. I believe it was like 16 cups.

Sorry Jill I couldn't resist this photo. Oh so close to bad we had a heckler lol!!!

The next 5 pics are from a card sorting game. The only cards used are 10s, Jacks, Queens, Kings, and Aces.
Mike in action!
Kim deciding on where to go next.

Me just getting started.
Jill's minute of fame.
Rob is ready to go! He won almost all the games. He was the minute to win it champion!
The only challenge we all completed in one minute was the card one. We played about 2-3 more games. Lots of fun was had by all. This update is about 11 days old but better late than never!

Chocolate-Covered Oreo Cookie Cake

Here is the recipe for those that want it. I found it in a Kraft magazine about a year or two ago and just tried it out.

Prep: 20 minutes Total: 1 hour 20 minutes (Maybe after you have made it once or twice, but hey that is what they say!)

1 pkg. (2 layer size) devil's food chocolate cake mix
4 squares of Baker's Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, cut up
1 pkg. (8oz) Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups thawed Cool Whip Whipped Topping
12 Oreo Chocolate Sandwich Cookies, coarsely crushed ( I think I used 16 cookies)

PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees. Prepare and bake cake mix as directed on package in two 9 inch round baking pans. Cool 5 min.; remove from pans. Cool completely on wire racks.

MICROWAVE chocolate and butter in small microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 minutes or until butter is melted. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Cool 5 minutes.

BEAT cream cheese and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Gently stir in whipped topping and crushed cookies. Place 1 cake layer, top-side down, on serving plate. Spread top of layer evenly with cream cheese mixture. Cover with remaining layer, top-side up. Spoon chocolate glaze over top of cake. Let stand until set. Store in the refrigerator.

Makes 16 servings

Spring is in the Air...

...and this is what we have been up to lately:The cake was for our friend Jill's birthday, and it was yummy. That night we had lots of fun playing minute to win it games. I will share as soon as I get the pictures uploaded.
This is my favorite area of the back yard. The small hillside is now in bloom.

The bird feeder has been a hit for the birds! Patrick has already had to refill it once or twice.
More pretty blooms on the hillside in the back yard.

Lots of rhubarb. If you know any good recipes let me know.
My favorite flowers in the yard. They came up right beside the side of the house and driveway.
A spring and summer love Patrick and I both share. Him grilling and we both enjoy the eating!

Patrick and Friends

3 Trees down! The two covering the house up are now down. We didn't plan on taking them down this soon, but we did plan on them coming down pretty quickly. This winter's ice storm helped our decision to take them down now rather than later. We like that now the house is not covered up. The before shot of the house with the two trees covering up a good portion of the front of the house.

The next pictures are of a tree in the back yard that was rotten, and now it is also down:

Patrick and Michael working out their game plan to take down the tree in freezing weather. By the way we were on a SNOW DAY/BLIZZARD!

The tree partially down after a great deal of work.

...continued from previous picture.

This is how the tree stayed until the weather warmed up!

The tree is now finally down. Thanks Michael and Mr. Grote for your help!!!! Now all the branches from the 3 trees and the ice storm are gone!

The After shots:

See how open the front of the house looks now. We are open to suggestions on what to plant in place of the trees.

The back yard without the tree or tree house! Now all we have to do is get rid of this stump, and we can plant some flowers. Oh did I say we?

Hard Work and It's Rewards

I got home today, and in the mail was my Standard License! When we moved out here I had to take 2 classes to keep Elementary. I finished them in December, sent off all my paper work in March, and received my license today. I was very happy to see this: The next pictures are before shots of the kitchen with ugly wallpaper. I don't have any before pictures of the small hallway from the living room to the kitchen, but it was covered in the purple and white plaid. Special Note take down wallpaper with a wallpaper steamer it goes by so much quicker!!!
Before:
After pictures or wallpaper free pictures: I will post when we have these walls painted!
The first 2 pictures are of the small hallway. Turn your head to the side to get a better view of the second picture here.
The next 3 pictures are of the kitchen:

The next step for us the Do It Yourself Box Team is sand down the cabinets/drawers, repaint them, put on new hardware, and then paint the kitchen/hallway walls. The goal is to have all of this finished before June!
